Unusual complications of bacterial endocarditis.

چکیده

Four patients are described who developed unusual complications of bacterial endocarditis, in addition to aortic regurgitation: one patient with ventricular septal defect and three patients with mycotic aneurysm of the mitral-aortic intervalvular fibrosa. The definitive diagnosis of these unusual manifestations of bacterial endocarditis can only be established by cardiac catheterization and with left cineventriculography and/or aortography. Treatment should consist of vigorous and appropriate antimicrobial therapy, measures to combat the congestive heart failure, and surgical correction of the lesions, preferably after the infection has been eradicated.
